A bit of history !!
Joey was born in Bulawayo but grew up in QueQue and Redcliffe. He was back in Bulawayo for his high school years which were at Hamilton and Northlea.
Joey did his army “call-up” in med core so was not until the early 80’s that saw him in his first band “Cutlass” along with Jan Jacobs, Adrian Beecham (he being the one that the ladies lined the dance floor to drool over!) Brian and Dave Nunema the drummer.
They were contracted to play at the Holiday Inn where most people would remember him from the early days.
After another 2 years in the UK Joey went back to Rhodesia to play in new band called “Banned” (I am sure they took a long time to decide on this band name !!!)
“Banned” members were Jan Jacobs, Richard Lambert-Porter, Mark Robinson, Dicky Fusco (drums). Larry Jenkinson, Tony Morris-Davies, and at least one half-practice and one session with Dennis Scott (whom many people knew from Bulawayo)
They played at Holliday Inn in Bulawayo and also joined up with Rick Accorsi and Barry Henderson to play at “Catch 22” as “Those Guys” till the early 90,s
Joey then played with Fernando Lopes and Tookie Androulakis at “Joes Place” until 98 before coming back to the UK again.
Joey did the instrumental music, for a film company called “Osprey” which won an International TV award for best natural wildlife documentary.
Joey’s music “Sad African Tale” is dedicated for funding of captured rhino breeding. This is something that Joey holds close to his heart.
